Brandon’s Journey

Ever since I was little, I always knew I wanted to work with computers but I never knew the exact career path. I always liked drawing as a kid and started making short stories with drawings and characters. My determination comes from watching my mother have to raise me by herself after my father and grandmother passed early in my life. We lived in a homeless shelter for a couple of years until my mother was hired to be a teacher for a local school. Seeing her persevere made me want to find a career that I could enjoy and be able to take care of her and myself as she did all those years.
In middle school, I started believing that computer engineering would be the perfect job but I had no idea what the people in that job profession did. I pushed through middle school and high school believing that computer engineering was my dream career until I met a graphic designer the summer before I left for college. He explains to me the difference between computer engineering and graphic designing. He showed me some of his work and I instantly knew that computer engineering wasn’t for me and I wanted to be a graphic designer! It also reminded me of a graphics class I took in middle school that I enjoyed a lot but I completely forgot about it since I had computer engineering as a main goal.

Now I am a freelance graphic designer from Chapel Hill, North Carolina with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from East Carolina University. I mainly specialize in logo design and brand identity. I also have experience in creating webpage designs, advertisements, flyers, banners, and digital illustrations. I am proficient in the majority of the Adobe Creative Suite but I am an expert in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. I still am thankful for my mother and where I am now. In my design, I try to incorporate illustration with my bold minimal style of work. I hope you enjoy looking at my portfolio!
